It's About The Little Things

I'm not a politician or an oil company executive.  I don't have control over a lot but I do have control over my own home and my own actions, so for me, making a difference is about all of the little decisions I make in my own daily life.

I fished out all my old tote bags and use those instead of plastic bags or buying new plastic tote bags.

I try and reduce my garbage by composting, recycling, and buying items with less packaging.

I walk everywhere I can and when I can't I take public transportation.  I use a carsharing service or take a cab instead of owning a car.

When we bought our house we did an energy inventory: added insulation, bought CFLs, and tried to plug up drafts.

When I buy a product, I try to purchase the most environmentally friendly one I can and when I find one that works really well I share it with others.

I keep track of the amount of paper I print out at work and try to reduce that as much as possible.  I had no idea how much paper I used until I started to moniter it.

I buy almost all of my food locally at the farmers market.

I look for ways to reduce my carbon footprint everyday so I'm sure I could update this in a few weeks and have new things that I've added to the list.
