Until November 30, 2008 vote for X Prize Green Idea Winner on X Prize site

Between now and November 30 you can view the 3 X Prize finalists and vote for one of them at http://www.xprize.org/crazy-green-idea. One is about an energy-independent house, another is about the need for a new type of energy storage, and the third, my favorite, suggests a competition between communities to see who can be the most energy-efficient. I like the community idea because it would involve many people and would reward them for doing what they should be doing anyway--drawing up and following energy saving plans. Such community plans could include, in some form, many of the separate ideas expressed in the 133 videos at www.youtube.com/groups_videos?name=crazygreenidea and this could be a way to not have to set aside so many good ideas in order to reward only one. I hope that communities striving to be competitively green (should this idea win) will also understand the importance of encouraging further experiments with ideas that are almost ready but still need work. Oil is constantly in the news as a source of carbon emissions, political contention, and financial drain, and I believe replacing it should be a top priority. Several videos suggest that a fuel can be made from algae specially grown for this purpose. If so, I hope some of the communities competing for the new X Prize will soon be pumping algae into their cars instead of gas. (Note for those that have been looking at the videos on the You Tube X Prize group page: The video about communities was not there. Typing “Energy X Prize” into the You Tube search box brings it up along with additional others. In fact, typing in any green-related headings will bring up great ideas beyond those in this contest. Try the phrase “sunflower fuel.”)
